Welcome and Make Yourself
Right at Home
in the Queens Community

Warm spring nights are a perfect opportunity for some recreational activities.
Congratulations! If you're moving to the Queens area or considering it, you've found a great community to call home.

*Queens Relocation Guide. Click here to learn what's inside.
Did You Know?
The largest of the five boroughs, Queens extends 15 miles east to west and 18 miles north to south--constituting 37 percent of the territory of New York City--and it is almost as large as Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island (the remaining four boroughs) combined. Predominantly a residential borough, Queens is the most ethnically diverse county in the United States.

Plenty of Recreation
Queens is known as home of the U.S. Open tennis championships, Aqueduct and Belmont Park racetracks, the New York Mets baseball team, and college sports teams including the St. John's University Red Storm. But, in addition to these spectator sports events, Queens offers opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports, at all levels of competition.

There's Plenty to See
The unique arts and cultural resources in Queens include the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to the art, history, technology and technique of film, television and video; a complete representation of New York City in miniature; and a 200-year old working farm. Also, various cultural and arts groups offer a steady stream of performances and exhibitions.

There's a real sense of community felt throughout the Queens area.
Making the Move
Each neighborhood of Queens offers a variety of housing choices, from economical apartments to large, single-family homes. About 70 percent of the total units in Queens in 2001 were multiple family dwellings (including cooperative, condominium and rental apartment buildings, and attached housing). In some neighborhoods, homes are sold at closing prices hovering around $222,500 with Condos closing at $244,000. Of the 752,149 occupied housing units in the borough in 2001, 42.5 percent were owner occupied. The remaining units are rented, usually to long-term tenants. In 2001, half of all renters had lived in the same unit for at least five years. The median rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $841 for units subject to rent regulation, $700 for unregulated units.

There's Something for Everyone
You will find countless places of interest to satisfy. Jazz aficionados will want to explore the Queens Jazz Trail with tours past the former homes of the Jazz giants and visits to the town hall Jazz exhibition; the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, housed in a landmark neo-Italian Renaissance building, which presents professional theater, Jazz, and popular multi-cultural music performances. Rich in history and culture, arts and entertainment, and attractions, all that Brooklyn and Queens have to offer combine into an incredible amalgam of experiences.

Many people recognize Louis Armstrong's home as a high point in the history of Queens.
